Sports Medicine Meniscal allograft transplantation

چکیده
Meniscal allograft transplantation has emerged as a successful treatment option for select patients with meniscal deficiencies. Meniscal transplants have been performed with concomitant realignment and instability procedures with success, and recent studies have shown that concomitant cartilage restoration offers good outcomes for patients with focal, full-thickness cartilage lesions. Meniscal sizing and processing continues to provide more accurate and safe methods of preparing the meniscus for transplantation. While most physicians continue to use radiographs to size menisci, several other options have been proposed for optimize sizing. Surgical technique continues to vary among surgeons, with the use of suture, bone plug, and bone bridge fixation. Outcome studies have shown pain relief and increased activity in intermediate-term studies, but longterm follow-up studies are still needed.

Prospective evaluation of concurrent meniscus transplantation and articular cartilage repair: minimum 2-year follow-up.
BACKGROUND Recognition of the symbiotic relationship between the meniscus and articular cartilage is critical to the success of meniscal allograft transplantation. Simultaneous combined meniscal allograft transplantation and cartilage restoration procedures have been proposed for patients with a symptomatic postmeniscectomy knee with a focal chondral defect that would have traditionally been co...

BACKGROUND Meniscal allograft transplantation has become a viable surgical alternative for a select group of patients with deficient or irreparable menisci. Subjective results are encouraging; long-term success, durability, and safety of allograft meniscal transplantation are uncertain. PURPOSES To evaluate a novel hydrogel meniscal replacement implant in an ovine model and assess chondroprot...

Menisci function to manage load transmission, provide secondary mechanical stability as well as nutrition, and lubricate the joint. Meniscus transplantation techniques continue to evolve and include: free soft tissue allograft implantation; separate anterior and posterior bone plugs; and bone bridges including key hole, trough, dovetail, and bridge-in-slot variations. BACKGROUND Symptomatic early-onset chondromalacia often develops after a meniscectomy in the affected knee compartment. The role of meniscal transplantation in reducing pain and improving function in patients with prior ipsilateral meniscectomy is still being defined. HYPOTHESIS Patients with symptomatic early-onset chondromalacia of the knee after ipsilateral meniscectomy will have improved ...

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) after partial or total meniscectomy is a prevalent issue that patients must face. Various methods of replacing meniscal tissue have been studied to avoid this progression, including meniscal allograft transplantation, meniscal scaffolds, and synthetic meniscus replacement. Studies have shown that meniscal scaffolds may improve symptoms but have not been shown to prevent...
